Illinois Chapter

Who We Are

The Illinois Chapter consists of both experienced and newer AAM mediators, presently centered in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Our objectives are:

(1) to raise the quality of mediation by providing programs that enhance the skills of mediators by providing new tools and devices for achieving resolution; and

(2) to assist new and less experienced attorney-mediators to develop their practices as mediators through such approaches as networking, coaching, observation and co-mediation.

As attorney-mediators, we believe that mediation is most effective when mediators have the legal experience associated with the type of dispute is being mediated and the personal experience of representing clients in situations like those of the parties to the dispute. At the same time, we are convinced that when mediation is limited to the settlement conference model, the parties are deprived of the full range of options for reaching resolution of their dispute.

We strongly support the national AAM organization and are deeply indebted to AAM for mediation skills and organizational support they provide. As mediation is still beginning to become well-established in Illinois, non-members of AAM are welcome at our events and programs.
